Use of Force Instructor Update

Up one level

Teaching Reasonable Force (8 hours)

Do you want to reduce hesitation by officers in use of force encounters?  Do you want to help officers justify their lawful actions during administrative inquiries and litigation?  If so, this course will give you the tools.  We will discuss how to simply and effectively teach legal aspects of Use of Force based on the constitutional standard set forth by the U.S. Supreme Court.  We will cover factual articulation in report writing -- an often-overlooked but indispensable skill.  We will also discuss human performance under stress, training philosophies, and how officers can mentally prepare for critical incidents.

Designing Reality Based Training Programs (4hours)

Many law enforcement officers who have participated in reality based training would probably say they have been "killed" more times than they have been successful.  Add to this, instructor "feedback” of how they screwed up, and you have a recipe for disaster during a critical incident on the streets.  This course focuses on how positive reinforcement along with properly designed scenarios can better prepare officers to perform effectively on the streets.  This course covers common pitfalls of reality based training programs with a major emphasis on providing constructive criticism to students that empowers rather than hinders their future performance.
