Have the students research Harrison’s major accomplishments during his presidency.  Discuss the fact that Benjamin Harrison was elected president even though he received fewer votes than his opponent.

Using information from class discussions and classroom resources, have the students research the history and purpose of the Electoral College.  Invite the students to record their findings in a graphic organizer and write summary statements connecting their research with the outcome of President Harrison’s election.
