The core purpose of the Global Change Research Program (GCRP) in EPA's Office of Research and Development (ORD) is to provide scientific information, analysis tools and techniques for stakeholders and policymakers to deliver an effective response to the risks posed by global change.
The Global Team supports the overarching research goal of delivering results about the consequences of global change on air pollution, water pollution, the land we live on, and our health. The research program focuses on conducting research across three broad areas: Adaptation, Vulnerability, and Mitigation; within the environmental endpoints affected by global climate change:
- Atmospheric Science
- Water
- Land
- Human Health
Research funded by the Science to Achieve Results (STAR) program contributed significantly to understanding the risks presented by global change. In particular STAR results have provided understanding of the increased risk for poor air quality due to projected global change. STAR continues to study the interdependent and interactive effects of multiple stresses along with the human dimensions of global change catalyzing changes in our response and adaptation to the challenges of likely global climate change.
STAR projects produce scientific knowledge that delivers results that local and state decision makers use in long-range planning for infrastructure, water resources, land use planning, and air quality management decisions. STAR projects deliver results policy makers and stakeholders use to improve our quality of life while preserving our environment and improving public health.
