Zip File Format

Microsoft Windows

Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 have the capability of opening zip files without requiring the installation of any additional software. Simply double-click on the zip file and a window will open showing the contents of the zip file. The contents may then be dragged and dropped to extract or double-clicked to run.

7-Zip is a free program available to users of all versions of Windows. 7-Zip can extract a wider range of zip file formats than SecureZip or Windows' native functionality.

Mac OS X

In OS X, zip file functionality is built into the Finder.

StuffIt Expander is a free program available to users of Mac OS X.
