Program Announcements

PARs for applications to perform Genetic and Genomic Analyses of Xenopus (R01, R21, and R03)

The National Institutes of Health has issued a series of Program Announcements with a special Review (PARs) to solicit applications using Xenopus to identify and characterize genes, gene families, and gene networks that control developmental and cellular events. They also solicit applications to generate research tools and to perform pilot studies. Additionally, they solicit applications to devise and improve techniques to alter gene expression, and to control the spatial and temporal pattern of gene expression and to utilize new genetic tools in Xenopus research.

These PARs have been issued for the R01, R21, and R03 award mechanisms each of which have distinct purposes and limitations as described in the text of the announcements. There is one receipt date per year for each of the next three years: September, 30th 2009, 2010 & 2011. Applications received for each receipt date will be reviewed together in a study section convened specifically for them.

These PARs are co-sponsored by the Trans-NIH Xenopus Working Group and by 8 different Institutes at the NIH including; the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, National Eye Institute, National Heart Lung and Blood Institute, National Institute on Deafness and Craniofacial Research, National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, National Institute of Environmental Health, National Institute of General Medical Sciences, National Institute of Mental Health, and the National Institute on Neurological Disorders and Stroke.
Not all of these award mechanisms are offered by all of the Institutes and the listing of those Institutes participating can be found in the text of each program announcement along with descriptions of the specific research interests of the participating Institutes. Applications performing studies relevant to these institutes are welcome.
