Chickasaw National Recreation Area.

The subject of the tenth quarter in the America the Beautiful Quarters® Program is Chickasaw National Recreation Area.  One unique aspect of the park is that an American Indian tribe (the Chickasaw Nation) played a major part in its founding.

Chickasaw National Recreation Area, part of the national park system, was originally established as a national site on in 1902.  The recreation area has these purposes:

  •  To protect the area's unique resources, such as springs, streams, and lakes.
  •  To keep those resources available for everyone's education, appreciation, and recreational use.
  •  To protect and interpret the area's historic culture, landscapes, and structures.
  •  To commemorate the Chickasaw Nation.
  • The Lincoln Bridge is shown on the Chickasaw quarter.  The limestone bridge was dedicated in 1909 to celebrate the 100th anniversary (centennial) of Abraham Lincoln's birth.  The bridge is the first constructed improvement in this recreation area and has long been a favorite scenic spot for many people.
