International Activities Program Home Page Through the International Activities Program, NCES supports a variety of activities to provide statistical data for cross-national comparisons of education. On behalf of the United States, NCES participates in the International Indicators of Education Systems (INES), a program of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), an intergovernmental organization of 34 member countries. NCES coordinates the participation of U.S. adults, students, teachers, principals, and schools in various international assessments and surveys, including, currently, the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) and the Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS), both conducted by the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA) and the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA), the Program for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC), and the Teaching and Learning International Survey (TALIS), all conducted by the OECD.
