Why is there no local-level NCVS? In the past, a small number of researchers were able to use the area-identified NCVS. In each case, the researcher and their proposed project underwent an extensive vetting process. Further, any and all analysis had to take place at a Census Bureau facility. Unfortunately, the Census Bureau has suspended the availability of area-identified NCVS files and, as of now, only BJS staff members are allowed access to the data. We are working with the Census Bureau to re-enable use of these files, including the creation of accompanying documentation. It will take some time to address the issues, so BJS cannot say at this time when the files will become available. |
