Healthy People 2020
The Purpose of the Program
Healthy People 2020 is a 10-year national strategic health initiative led by the US Department of Health and Human Services which establishes objectives for health promotion and disease prevention for Americans. The Administration on Aging is playing a key role in this national initiative as a member of the Federal Interagency subcommittees by leading the Older Adult Workgroup. Since 1979, Healthy People has established and monitored national health objectives every ten years to meet a broad range of American health needs. The Older Adult Workgroup is a new component of this initiative and strives to ensure the inclusion of seniors in the nation’s health agenda.
Now is the time to provide your input into the draft objectives. As a national initiative, Healthy People’s success for older Americans depends on a coordinated commitment to participate in the improved health of the nation. To develop and refine the nation’s Healthy People objectives, the Department uses a process which strives to maximize transparency, public input and stakeholder dialogue to ensure relevancy to and inclusiveness of diverse public health needs.
