As the Special Agent in Charge of the Charlotte Field Division, I want to welcome you to the Division web site of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). We in the Charlotte Field Division are responsible for the ATF jurisdiction in both great states of North and South Carolina. Our web site can be a useful tool for anyone needing information about us and has been designed to provide the latest public information and activity regarding our programs and projects. This site is just another means in which we demonstrate our dedication to actively engaging our customers by effectively communicating useful information as we strive to protect the public and address the issue of violent crime.
Here in the Carolinas, we pride ourselves in our joint enforcement efforts with other federal, state and local law enforcement and fire service professionals. We also strive to engage ourselves with our regulated businesses, including the firearms and explosives industries, to address potential public safety issues. We continue to believe that anything positive can be accomplished if we combine and focus our efforts on a single goal, and that overall goal is to provide safe and secure communities for our good citizens to live and thrive in.
The site has contact information for each of our outlying field offices and area offices, to include the contact information for key personnel for the Division office in Charlotte. COLUMBIA, South Carolina — James Anthony Ashford, a/k/a Pop–A–Lot
, age 27, of Columbia, South Carolina, was sentenced today to 120 months (10 years) imprisonment, which will be followed by three (3) years supervised release. Chief United States District Judge Margaret B. Seymour imposed the sentence today after Ashford’s earlier guilty plea to the charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. ATF To Certify Bomb-Sniffing Dogs From Southeast to Identify Peroxide-Based and Homemade Explosives

CHARLOTTE – Members of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) mobile canine explosives training team will certify explosives detection canines, or bomb-sniffing dogs, from local police departments, as well as federal agencies at the National Guard Armory in Fayetteville, North Carolina, on the National Odor Recognition Test (NORT) developed by explosives experts and chemists. Columbia, South Carolina — United States Attorney Bill Nettles stated today that Malcolm Robert Lee Melvin, age 21, of Florence, South Carolina, was sentenced March 13, 2012, in federal court in Florence after having been found guilty of one count of conspiracy, eight counts of armed robbery and eight counts of using a firearm during the commission of a crime of violence.
