Chief Human Capital Officer: T. Michael Kerr

T. Michael Kerr was confirmed by the Senate as the Department of Labor’s Assistant Secretary for Administration and Management on May 1, 2009.
Prior to his appointment as Assistant Secretary, Mr. Kerr was Assistant to the Secretary-Treasurer at the Service Employees International Union, where he was in charge of finance and administration.
During the Carter administration he served in the White House Office of Consumer Affairs and the legislative office of the Department of Health and Human Services. He later served eight years in the Labor Department during the Clinton administration, overseeing various agencies and ultimately serving as Wage and Hour Administrator.
In the early seventies, Kerr moved to Washington, D.C. to do political and legislative work for the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME). After graduating from college, Kerr spent two and a half years in community organizing as a VISTA (Volunteer in Service to America).
He has a B.A. from Tufts University and a Masters in City Planning from MIT.
