The judging process for the Omni Awards is rigorous. With a panel of three independent judges, each entry is rated based on a standardized set of criteria.

The College Drinking Prevention Web site was awarded the Aesculapius Certificate of Merit by the Health Improvement Institute in 2010. The Aesculapius Award, named for the ancient Greek God of healing, recognizes outstanding organizations that have provided health information to the public through the use of World WideWeb (WWW) sites or television or radio public service announcements (PSAs).

This year marks the eleventh year of the annual awards competition. This award was established by the Health Improvement Institute, a non-profit, tax-exempt organization based in Bethesda, Maryland, to promote excellence in informing consumer lifestyle choices and health care decisions.

The Child & Family WebGuide describes and evaluates web sites that contain research-based information about child development. Sites awarded are selected from thousands of sites about children, based primarily on the quality of the information provided. The goal of the WebGuide is to give the public easy access to the best child development information on the Web.

Each week the USA TODAY Education online staff selects three "Best Bet" sites they feel would be of educational value to their audience of subscribers and guests. These sites are listed on the USA TODAY Education home page with a brief description and a link to the site. The site is honored as fewer than 150 sites are selected each year as USA TODAY Education "Best Bet" Web sites.

College Drinking: Changing the Culture has won the Advanced Programming Concepts Web Development Excellence Award! This award recognizes the advanced programming concepts used to create the site such as development in ASP.net, use of Access XP database and JavaScript for user controls, rotation of facts and policies using 'post-it notes', and the use of Flash to create a cool 'Interactive Body' and eCards in the Student section. This award certifies the site as a legitimate leader in web development excellence using advanced programming concepts in design, coding, or graphics.

The award recognized the site for its "Sections for parents, high school counselors, and students give the latest statistics and information about drinking and youth. For students, the materials are often interactive and show how alcohol affects different parts of the body, alcohol myths, and how much alcohol is costing you, in calories and in dollars. You can also enter information into online software that lets you look at how drinking behavior affects your BAC (Blood Alcohol Content)." Blue Web'n is a searchable library of about 1200 outstanding Internet learning sites categorized by subject area, audience, and type (lessons, activities, projects, resources, references, & tools).

The NIAAA Task Force on College Drinking received a "Green Light" award from the Automobile Club of New York, an affiliate of the Automobile Association of America. In citing the statistics outlined in the Task Force report, the club applauded NIAAA for "calling attention to this perennial tragedy."

National Institute of Health

NIH Director's Award

The NIH Director's Award recognizes superior performance or special efforts significantly beyond the regular duty requirements, and directly related to fulfilling the mission of the National Institutes of Health. The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism's College Team received this award for developing and implementing NIAAA's College Drinking Prevention Initiative, thus advancing underage drinking prevention.
