BTS compiles, analyzes, and publishes data on transportation accidents and exposure for use in transportation safety decision making. In addition to analyzing available data, BTS also plays a key role in the USDOT Safety Data Initiative and in the Confidential Close Calls Reporting System for the railroad industry.
