FEC to Hold Public Hearing on NPRM on Candidates’ and Officeholders’ Participation in Non-Federal Fundraising Events

Tuesday, March 16, 10 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.

FEC Hearing Room

WASHINGTON—The Federal Election Commission will hold a public hearing Tuesday, March 16, at 10 a.m., on the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) on Participation by Federal Candidates and Officeholders at Non-Federal Fundraising Events.  The NPRM proposed rules regarding federal candidates’ and officeholders’ participation at non-federal fundraising events, as well as their inclusion in publicity relating to such events. The proposed rules are in response to the opinion of the Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit in Shays v. FEC, 528 F.3d 914 (D.C. Cir. 2008).

The Commission will hear testimony from the following:

  • Tom Josefiak (National Republican Congressional Committee)
  • Paul Ryan (Campaign Legal Center)
  • John Phillippe (Republican National Committee)
  • Sean Cairncross (National Republican Senatorial Committee)

The hearing will be held at the Commission’s offices at 999 E Street, N.W. in Washington. The schedule of witnesses is available on the FEC website.

The Federal Election Commission (FEC) is an independent regulatory agency that administers and enforces federal campaign finance laws. The FEC has jurisdiction over the financing of campaigns for the U.S. House of Representatives, the U.S. Senate, the Presidency and the Vice Presidency. Established in 1975, the FEC is composed of six Commissioners who are nominated by the President and confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
