NHGRI Participation in the NIH Common Fund

NIH Common Fund LogoThe National Institutes of Health (NIH) Common Fund is a series of far-reaching, trans-institute initiatives designed to transform the nation's medical research capabilities and speed the movement of research discoveries from the bench to the bedside.

The National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) is contributing to the development and implementation of numerous Common Fund initiatives, primarily in the area of New Pathways to Discovery. This NIH Common Fund theme addresses the need to advance our understanding of the daunting complexity of biological systems.

To fully capitalize on the recent completion of the human genome sequence and many recent discoveries in molecular and cell biology, the research community needs wide access to technologies, databases and other scientific resources that are more sensitive, more robust and more easily adaptable to researchers' individual needs.
