The FCC is committed to helping children keep safe when they are online, in and outside of the home.
As a partner in OnGuard Online, a federal agency partnership maintained by the Federal Trade Commission, the FCC provides practical information about discusing online safety with children and teenagers, including social networking, cyberbullying, using mobile phones safely and protecting the family computer.
The FCC also provides advice on protecting children from objectionable content on wireless devices.
In addition, in early 2001, the FCC issued rules implementing the Children's Internet Protection Act, which addresses concerns about access to offensive content over the internet on school and library computers. To qualify for discounts offered by the Universal Service E-Rate program assisting schools and libraries with affordable telecommunications services, they must certify that they comply with Children's Internet Protection Act requirements, including the establishment and enforcement of an internet safety policy.
