NHGRI Webinar Series: Family History: The Next Generation

Family History: The Next Generation presented information on upcoming activities and efforts related to family health history. NHGRI Acting Director Alan Guttmacher, M.D., hosted the Webinar. Greg Feero, M.D., Ph.D., chief of NHGRI's Genomics Healthcare Branch, talked about the efforts to improve the utilization of family history information in healthcare and the importance of engaging communities. This Webinar took place on September 11, 2008 at 1 p.m. Eastern.

About the Speakers

	Alan E. Guttmacher, M.D., Ph.D. Acting Director National Human Genome Research Institute National Institutes of Health Bethesda, MD
Alan Guttmacher, M.D., is the Acting Director of the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI), helping oversee the institute's efforts in advancing genome research, integrating the benefits of genome research into health care, and exploring the ethical, legal, and social implications of human genomics.
	William G. Feero, M.D., Ph.D. Senior Advisor to the Director for Genomic Medicine Chief, Genomics Healthcare Branch National Human Genome Research Institute Bethesda, MD
Dr. Feero is currently the Chief of the Genomic Healthcare Branch, National Human Genome. Research Institute (NHGRI), and Senior Advisor to the Director, NHGRI, for Genomic Medicine. His interests include the development of electronic, health-record-based tools for genomics in clinical practice, and genomics education for the health professions.
	Melanie Myers, M.S., Ph.D., C.G.C. Assistant Professor, College of Allied Health Sciences Assistant Director, Genetic Counseling Graduate Program University of Cincinnati and Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center
Melanie is board certified as a genetic counselor by the American Board of Genetic Counseling since June 1993. Some of her interests and responsibilities with the program include developing the "Research Methods" course and teaching several other courses for the training of genetic counseling students, coordinating Genetic Counseling Program students' clinical activities and ensuring compliance with institutional/accreditation requirements, and to develop and implement a funded research program.
	Michael F. Murray, M.D. Director, General Genetics Clinic (BWH) Instructor in Medicine (Harvard Medical School) Clinical Chief, Genetics Division Department of Medicine Brigham and Women's Hospital
Mike Murray is the clinical chief of genetics at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. He runs the Adult Genetics Clinic at the hospital and the Annual "Genetic Basis of Adult Medicine" course at Harvard Medical School.
