Pigment Cell Gene Resource

The goal of the Pigment Cell Gene Resource is to provide a centralized, comprehensive resource of published scientific data relevant to pigment cell biology. This database contains summaries of articles relevant to melanocyte and Retinal Pigment Epithelium (RPE) development and function, and links to the associated PubMed abstracts are provided if available. Article summaries are first organized by gene, then sub-divided by topic. Links to other useful resources, such as NCBI, UCSC, Mouse Genome Informatics, and mutation diagrams/tables are included throughout the database. In addition, the Pigment Cell Gene Resource contains the Pigment Cell Gene Network, a detailed, interactive gene network diagram created with the freely available BioTapestry Software developed by the Institute for Systems Biology. For more detailed explanations of the Pigment Cell Gene Resource, see (Baxter, et al., 2010).

While currently this database is primarily focused on SOX10 and PAX3, we anticipate this database to grow to include many relevant genes and pathways for melanocytes, and we welcome comments and contributions from pigment cell researchers using the Submit Data link at left.

To enter the Pigment Cell Gene Resource, select a gene of interest or the Pigment Cell Gene Network from the list below, or from the menu at left. Alternatively, search for a specific topic by entering a keyword in the search field.
