Advances in Genomics Research Summer Program

August 6-10, 2012

Student
The National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) coordinated the efforts of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to sequence the human genome as part of in the International Human Genome Project (HGP). Since the completion of the HGP in April 2003, the field of genomics research has become fast-paced and expansive.

This summer, the NHGRI Division of Intramural Research will offer a new, intensive, six-day program in genomics specifically designed for promising graduate students with an interest in pursuing careers in genomics research. Students will attend seminars presented by leading NHGRI research investigators. Seminars will provide updates on the latest advances in genomics research, focus on the most current understanding of the genetic basis of disease and examine the ethical, legal and social implications of genomics research.

Graduate students will join faculty participants of the NHGRI Summer Workshop in Genomics for seminars and will also take advantage of activities focused on career development and networking. Graduate students will present their research at a poster session, engage in informal discussions with NHGRI investigators and postdoctoral trainees and participate in extended tours of working laboratories and facilities at the NIH.
