Attendees are responsible for making hotel reservations. A limited number of rooms with a discounted price are reserved for us at the Four Points Sheraton. Registration deadline in order to take advantage of the conference rate is March 25, 2004. Please try to use this hotel since they have shuttle service and we are financially responsible for any rooms not used. Call ASAP to reserve a room since limited space is available. Conference-rate rooms are not available at the Bethesda Marriott, but information is provided here as an alternate to the Sheraton.

There are shuttle buses continually running to and from both the Marriott and the Sheraton to the conference at the Cloisters on the National of Institutes of Health (NIH) campus. Additionally, we will have an NIH campus bus that will make limited trips from the hotel to campus and back in the mornings and the evenings.

Note: Attendees are responsible for their own arrangements for travel to and from airport.

Hotel Accommodations for the Conference:

This is an informal meeting to allow interactions between the scientists attending. Continental breakfasts, coffee breaks and lunches will be provided on the 29 and 30. On the evenings of the 28 and 29 there will be receptions at the Cloisters.

However, travel and hotel accommodations will be the financial responsibility of the attendees.

Points SOUTH of Bethesda:

Take I-95 North (from VA and all points south of Washington D.C.) towards Washington D.C. At 1-495 (Capital Beltway) head north towards Silver Spring/ Bethesda. From I-495 Exit #34 , Wisconsin Avenue, Southbound. Stay on Wisconsin Avenue for approximately 2-3 miles. Hotel will be on your right.

Points NORTH of Bethesda:

Take I-95 south toward Washington, D.C. At I-495 (Capital Beltway), head west toward Silver Spring/Bethesda. From the Beltway (I-495), take Exit 34 which is Rt. 355 (Wisconsin Ave./Rockville Pike) and head south toward Washington/Bethesda. Stay on Wisconsin Avenue for approximately 2-3 miles. Visitor Parking is extremely difficult to find at NIH, so if at all possible, take public transportation. There is a Metrorail station on the NIH campus with shuttle bus service to the main buildings.

Directions to the Cloisters via Metrorail, by Driving and from Area Airports

Taking the Metrorail
Metrorail service is available from Washington's National Airport and from Union Station (railway). Take Metro's Red Line to the Medical Center Station. The station's escalators come out on the NIH campus. To get to the Cloister, walk from the top of the escalators past the bus stops down South Drive. Cross the street and veer right onto Center Drive (past the Anchor). Remain on Center Drive as it veers left and uphill. The Cloister is at the corner of Convent and Center Drive on the left side of Center Drive. OR: just take the NIH campus shuttle bus, which provides service to and from the Metro station every 15 to 20 minutes.

Ground Transportation from Local Airports

From Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI) [nih.gov]
Take the Baltimore-Washington Parkway south toward Washington, DC. At I-495 (Capital Beltway), head west toward Silver Spring/Bethesda. From the Beltway (I-495), take Exit 34 which is Rt. 355 (Wisconsin Ave./Rockville Pike) and head south toward Washington/Bethesda. At the second traffic light, turn right onto Cedar Lane; drive approximately 1/4 mile and turn left onto West Drive to enter the NIH campus then right onto Center Drive. The Cloister is at the corner of Convent and Center Drive on the left side of Center Drive.

From Dulles International Airport [nih.gov]
Head east on the Dulles Airport Access Road for approximately 13 miles. Exit onto I-495 (Capital Beltway), heading north to Bethesda/Baltimore. From the Beltway (I-495), take Exit 34 which is Rt. 355 (Wisconsin Ave./Rockville Pike) and head south toward Washington/Bethesda. At the second traffic light, turn right onto Cedar Lane; drive approximately 1/4 mile and turn left onto West Drive to enter the NIH campus then right onto Center Drive. The Cloister is at the corner of Convent and Center Drive on the left side of Center Drive.

From Ronald Reagan National Airport [nih.gov]
Head North on the George Washington Parkway for approximately 5 miles. Exit onto I-495 (Capital Beltway), heading north to Maryland. From the Beltway (I-495), take Exit 34 which is Rt. 355 (Wisconsin Ave./Rockville Pike) and head South toward Washington/Bethesda. At the second traffic light, turn right onto Cedar Lane; drive approximately 1/4 mile and turn left onto West Drive to enter the NIH campus then right onto Center Drive. Driving Directions

From Baltimore and All Points North of Washington, D.C.

From Virginia and All Points South of Washington, D.C.

Take I-95 north toward Washington, DC. At I-495 (Capital Beltway), head north toward Silver Spring/Bethesda. From the Beltway (I-495), take Exit 34 which is Rt. 355 (Wisconsin Ave./Rockville Pike) and head south toward Washington/Bethesda.
