Long-Range Planning

A Decade with the Human Genome Sequence: Charting a Course for Genomic Medicine

Ruth L. Kirschstein Auditorium
National Institutes of Health
Friday, February 11, 2011
8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.Eastern

The past year has been a particularly special one for the field of genomics and for the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI). This year has brought the 20th anniversary of the start of the Human Genome Project and the 10th anniversary of having in hand a draft sequence of the human genome. It also marks the end of a roughly 2-year planning process for the NHGRI, the output of which will be published as a new "strategic vision for genomics" in February 2011.

To commemorate this historic confluence of events, NHGRI hosted a day-long scientific symposium on Friday, Feb. 11, 2011, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. at the Ruth L. Kirschstein Auditorium, Natcher Conference Center on the National Institutes of Health (NIH) campus. The goal of the symposium was to offer the NIH community an exciting glimpse into contemporary genomics research, illustrating how genomics can be used to further medical discoveries and how genomics relates to individuals, communities and societies.

I appreciate having this videocast. I am wondering if I can acquire a copy of the Feb 10 commemorative Nature issue.

  • P.Beltran (March 6, 2011, 14:51)

I thoroughly enjoyed watching these presentations on the internet. A Big Thank You to the NHGRI and the NIH to make this information available to the public, as well as to all the scientific community for making all this happen. I must add that this event was indeed a beautiful celebration of the successes mankind has shown in the field of science and it was really enjoyable to watch and hear all these great minds together. Thank you again.

Thank you. Here at our Bioinfo Lab (Bimac) at Universidad del Cauca will be watching the webcast live, therefore, this event will impact our research, for example, a poster to "1st National Congress in Computational Biology" at Bogota. GOD bless all NHGRI people and their families.

Will presenter PDF / Powerpoint material be available ahead of time? Videocast quality is horrible (low res) and detail often illegible.

  • Habba Babba (February 4, 2011, 11:01)

    Wow this is amazing.

For those inquiring about the symposium, it will be webcast live and the webcast will be archived. You can watch it live at videocast.nih.gov on Feb. 11, and it will be available sometime in the next week on the NIH videocast archive and on the NHGRI YouTube channel GenomeTV, www.youtube.com/genometv/. Hope that helps.

The symposium has not made the videocast upcoming events calendar - Are we sure, it will be videocast?

  • Jean Jenkins (January 2, 2011, 08:44)

This symposium will be videocast on videocast.nih.gov

  • Anonymous (December 29, 2010, 08:10)

I will be there too Michel, from Hospital of Nice (France)

  • Orlando Serrano (December 23, 2010, 19:24)

I wonder if there will be any form to access to the information to be presented at the symposium, for those who will not be able to attend.
