Faith-based or Community-based Organizations; Indian/Native American Tribal Governments (Other than Federally Recognized); AHRQ�s authorizing legislation does not allow for-profit organizations to be eligible to lead applications under this research mechanism, thus for the purpose of this FOA, AHRQ will make grants only to non-profit organizations. For-profit organizations may participate in projects as members of consortia or as subcontractors only. Because the purpose of this program is to improve healthcare in the United States, foreign institutions may participate in projects as members of consortia or as subcontractors only. Applications submitted by for-profit organizations or foreign institutions will be returned without review. Organizations described in section 501(c) 4 of the Internal Revenue Code that engage in lobbying are not eligible.

Description
Purpose. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) solicits Large Research (R01) Projects, and expresses AHRQ portfolio priority areas of interest for ongoing extramural health services research, demonstration, dissemination, and evaluation grants. Mechanism of Support. This FOA will use the AHRQ Research Project Grant (R01) award mechanism. Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards. Awards issued under this FOA are contingent upon the availability of funds and the submission of a sufficient number of meritorious applications.Applications submitted in response to this FOA will receive the highest priority for AHRQ investigator initiated grant funds in FY09.Because the nature and scope of the proposed research will vary from application to application, it is anticipated that the size and duration of each award will also vary. The total amount awarded and the number of awards will depend upon the numbers, quality, duration, and costs of the applications received.Budget and Project Period.The total costs awarded to a grant under this FOA will not exceed $500,000 annually for the entire project period.An application with a budget that exceeds $500,000 total costs per year will not be reviewed.Funding beyond the first year will be contingent upon a review and acceptance by Agency staff of the progress report.
