Elder Abuse Instructor Training Program (EAITP)

Up one level

This instructor development course is designed to increase the effectiveness of those law enforcement professionals tasked with delivering training related to the abuse of older adults.

The primary focus of this program is to develop adjunct FLETC instructors who will be required to redeliver this material in their respective jurisdictions. Participants attending this program will learn new and creative ways to present various elder abuse related topics such as:  Financial Exploitation, Neglect, Physical Abuse of Older Adults, Interviewing Older Adults, Sexual Abuse of Older Adults and Statutes and Remedies.

The students attending this course represent law enforcement, prosecution, advocacy, adult protective services, courts, probation and any other agencies providing services or support to older adults. FLETC will provide students with all necessary training aids to set up in-service training and regional training in elder abuse.

Who Should Attend?

Applicants must be federal, state, local, campus, or tribal criminal justice professionals, prosecutors, advocates, adult protective service employees, and any other groups that provide services, in concert with law enforcement, to older adults.

The participants are encouraged, and first priority will be given, to those who register as a team of at least three disciplines (law enforcement, prosecution and advocacy/APS personnel). The participants should have a working understanding of domestic violence issues as this course is specifically focused on domestic violence toward older adults. Finally, those attending must represent agencies with a need for elder abuse related training.

The Office of State and Local Training expects that the participants will redeliver this training to secondary students upon completion.
