Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA)

Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP)

OJJDP, a component of the Office of Justice Programs, U.S. Department of Justice, accomplishes its mission by supporting states, local communities, and tribal jurisdictions in their efforts to develop and implement effective programs for juveniles. A major focus of OJJDP’s work is in supporting communities through training and technical assistance related to implementation of the Comprehensive Gang Model, direct grants to address gang issues at the community level, and acquisition and dissemination of gang materials via the National Criminal Justice Reference Service.

OJJDP Comprehensive Anti-Gang Initiative

This initiative includes the National Gang Center, annual National Youth Gang Surveys and training and technical assistance on the OJJDP Comprehensive Gang Model. OJJDP also provides funding to support programs such as the Gang Prevention Coordination Assistance Program and the Latino Youth Mentoring Program, and a wide variety of gang-related prevention and intervention resources.

Regional Information Sharing Systems (RISS) Program

RISS consists of six regional centers that provide services to assist in the investigation and prosecution efforts of law enforcement. One component of the RISS Program is RISSGang, a comprehensive investigative tool consisting of an intelligence database, a Web site, informational resources, and secure communications to aid in gang-related crimes and investigations. National Criminal Justice Reference Service (NCJRS)

The National Criminal Justice Reference Service (NCJRS) is a federal resource sponsored by various programs of the United States’ Department of Justice and the Executive Office of the President’s Office of National Drug Control Policy. This online service offers justice and substance abuse information that supports research, policy, and program development. In addition, users can register with the service to automatically receive electronic information related to specific areas of interest, trainings, conferences, funding, and new publications.

Gang Resistance Education And Training (G.R.E.A.T.)

The G.R.E.A.T. Program is a school-based, law enforcement officer-instructed classroom curriculum. With prevention as its primary objective, the program is intended as an immunization against delinquency, youth violence, and gang membership.

National Alliance of Gang Investigators Associations (NAGIA)

The National Alliance of Gang Investigators Associations is a cooperative organization currently composed of representatives from 16 regional gang investigators’ associations representing more than 15,000 gang investigators across the country, as well as federal agencies and other organizations involved in gang-related matters.

OJJDP SMART Mapping Tool

The OJJDP Socioeconomic Mapping and Resource Topography System (SMART) is a Geographic Information System (GIS)-based issues management system, developed to support the early identification of emerging local issues and to provide resources to assist decision makers with implementing both rapid-response and long-term plans.

National Gang Intelligence Center (NGIC)

The NGIC is an FBI-led, multiagency effort that integrates the gang intelligence assets of the FBI and other federal, state, and local law enforcement entities to serve as a centralized intelligence resource for gang information and analytical support. The mission is to support law enforcement agencies through timely and accurate information sharing and strategic/tactical analysis of federal, state, and local law enforcement intelligence focusing on the growth, migration, criminal activity, and association of gangs that pose a significant threat to communities throughout the United States.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is the law enforcement arm of the United States Department of Justice. The FBI is actively involved in gang intelligence and suppression activities on the national level and in partnership with local law enforcement.

The COPS office is a component of the United States Department of Justice dedicated to supporting effective community policing strategies at the tribal, state, and local levels. The COPS office provides funding, training, and technical assistance related to community policing efforts.

FindYouthInfo is a collaborative Web-based resource supported by various federal agencies focused on general youth-related issues.  FindYouthInfo.gov is the U.S. government Web site that helps users create, maintain, and strengthen effective youth programs. The National Drug Intelligence Center (NDIC)

The National Drug Intelligence Center (NDIC) provides strategic drug-related intelligence analysis and training to reduce drug trafficking, drug abuse, and drug-related crime. NDIC provides support to drug control, public health, law enforcement, and intelligence communities.
