Training: Computer Forensics Investigation

NIJ sponsors a series of computer forensic investigative training classes to strengthen the capacity of state and local law enforcement personnel to conduct thorough, forensically sound digital evidence examinations.

The course emphasizes forensically sound processes, practices and procedures when dealing with original digital evidence. The course has already been successfully taught in several locations throughout the United States. Participants first learn to manually locate, identify and recover digitally stored information in datasets using hexadecimal utilities. Next, they are taught to replicate the same processes much more quickly and efficiently using a collection of tools designed for the computer forensic investigator. All participants receive licensed and fully functional copies of these tools, which include DataLifter 2.0, File Extractor Pro and the DataLifter.net bonus tools.

Take the Course

State and local law enforcement personnel can take the course for free from NIJ's Electronic Crime Technology Center of Excellence.
