Support the Gallery

Since the National Gallery of Art's creation, the federal government and private supporters have served as partners in providing the funds that make the Gallery a world-renowned cultural institution. The federal government appropriates funds for the maintenance and operation of the Gallery. All works of art, however, are donated to the Gallery or purchased with funds from private donors. In addition, donors assist the Gallery with funding for select special exhibitions and educational programs. Following are some important ways you can support the National Gallery as a donor.

The Circle
Individuals who make an annual contribution of $1,000 or more are eligible for membership in The Circle of the National Gallery of Art. Circle members provide the Gallery with the means to respond to unexpected needs and opportunities. Benefits of membership include invitations to exhibition previews, lectures, and receptions, as well as mailings of Gallery publications.

Contributions to the National Gallery of Art are tax-deductible and may offer a welcome tax savings for you. Gifts of long-term appreciated stock can provide additional tax benefits.

Bequests
Designating the National Gallery as a beneficiary of your will can be a meaningful way to support the work of the nation's art museum. Each year the Gallery receives wonderful gifts, which are the result of the generosity of farsighted individuals who have made a bequest to the museum. Charitable bequests are an important part of estate planning and can enable many donors to make a more significant gift than they are able to do outright. By making a gift through your will, you can have a lasting impact on generations to come.
