Map of BENIN

In southern Benin, a College d'Enseignement General (CEG) is growing and serves a dynamic, rural community. The 2011-2012 academic year marked the first year in which the school offered second cycle (upper level) classes to its 562 students. This expansion offered a great opportunity for the students because for the first time they are able to continue their studies into second cycle at their local CEG instead of being forced to travel to another CEG in another village to continue their studies, which is often not feasible.

Although this expansion was a great step forward for our local CEG, the young school still lacks many elements essential to the education of its students. The community has expressed a pressing need for a laboratory to be constructed at the school. The construction of a laboratory would offer a multitude of opportunities for the students of our community. It would allow them to enhance the science curriculum for all classes, better prepare them for national exams, and allow the school to offer the highest level of classes, Terminale, to its students. This proposal requests funds to construct a laboratory on the grounds of our local CEG. The community has agreed to contribute many essential materials to the construction including the land plot, sand, and water tower. Their contribution along with the Peace Corps Partnership assistance will allow the school to further grow and offer more learning opportunities to its students.
