Real Friends

Mel defends KB while playing soccer and shows Coach that they understand teamwork.  Coach makes Mel the team’s captain and she picks KB to be on her team and introduces her to her other friends.

Take the Quiz

Question 1: Why do you think Melanie decided to block the ball and save KB from getting smashed in the face?

A) She wanted to show off her skills at “heading” the soccer ball.

LasaThat was a pretty impressive play…but I don’t think she was out to impress anyone. Try again.

B) She thought her “teamwork” would impress Coach Cruncher.

LasaMaybe. But I think there’s a better answer.

C) She was sick of Cassandra picking on KB.

LasaI agree. I think she’d finally “had it” with Cassandra and decided to do something to help.

Question 2: Why was Melanie booted out of Cassandra’s group?

A) Cassandra probably thought Mel wasn’t a loyal friend.

LasaI agree. Why do you think Cassandra felt that Mel wasn’t being loyal? (Check out the other answers.

B) Melanie picked KB, not Cassandra, to be on her team.

LasaRight. This was probably the last straw for Cassandra. Do you think that took guts for Mel to do that? Why else might Mel have been kicked out of Cassandra’s group?

C) Melanie messed up Cassandra’s plan to smash KB in the face with the soccer ball.

LasaYup. Pretty impressive dead block, huh? Why else do you think Cassandra might have kicked Melanie out of her group?

Question 3: On a scale of 1 to 10, how upset does Melanie seem that she got booted out of Cassandra’s group?

A) 7 — pretty upset

LasaReally? Check out her reaction again. I don’t think she’s upset at all. Would you be? Why/why not?

B) 3 — a bit upset

LasaShe didn’t look upset to me. Why don’t you think she was upset? After all, weren’t Cassandra, Mimi, and Bibi her good friends?

C) 1 — not at all upset

LasaI agree! Why don’t you think she was upset? After all, weren’t Cassandra, Mimi, and Bibi her good friends?

Question 4: Do you think KB will get picked on any more by Cassandra?

A) Yes. She’ll probably get picked on even more.

LasaI doubt it. I have a feeling that things will get better for KB now that she has Melanie and some other friends to hang out with.

B) No.

LasaI have a feeling you’re right and that things will get better for KB now that she has Melanie and some other friends to hang out with. Melanie’s actions really helped KB. Is there someone at school who you could help?

C) Hard to say.

LasaIt is hard to say, but I have a feeling that things will get better for KB now that she has Melanie and some other friends to hang out with.

Question 5: If Cassandra bullies KB again, what should she do?

A) Talk with her mom.

LasaI agree. Her mom seems easy to talk to and would really want to help. What else could she do?

B) Talk with Mr. Bittner, Coach Cruncher, or another adult at school.

LasaRight. I’d talk with Mr. Bittner, if I were her. What else could she do?

C) Tell Cassandra to cut it out.

LasaSometimes standing up to a bully can help. This can be really hard to do, so it’s OK if KB doesn’t feel up to it. It might help if she and some of her friends — Melanie, Raven, and Lasa — stood up to Cassandra together. What else could KB do?

D) She and Melanie should gang up on Cassandra to get even.

LasaNOT a good idea! That would just make things worse. Besides, do you know how much trouble they could get in? Try another answer.
