The 2007 Census of Agriculture is the Nation's 27th such census and the third one conducted by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS). The census provides comprehensive, uniform data about America's farms and farmers. American agriculture is counted, measured, priced, analyzed, and reported to provide the facts needed by farmers and ranchers, agribusiness, policymakers, farm organizations, and State and local agencies. The Census of Agriculture is used as benchmark data for projecting coming trends and interpreting the economic implications of those trends. Because of the importance of this information, Congress requires NASS to take the Census of Agriculture every 5 years. This map layer was compiled by the National Atlas of the United States® from data provided by NASS.

The Agriculture Census of the United States - 2007 map layer portrays the data for all fifty States, collected at the county level. The 25 categories of data in this map layer contain statistics on land use, operator characteristics, acreage, machinery and equipment, crops, livestock and poultry, and farming economics. Additional 2007 Census of Agriculture data, as well as access to data for earlier years, is available from the 2007 Census of Agriculture page. Further information on agriculture in the United States is available from the USDA Agriculture page.
