U.S. Assistant Deputy Secretary for Innovation and Improvement to Discuss Education Reform at Ohio Innovation Summit

Jim Shelton, assistant deputy secretary for innovation and improvement at the U.S. Department of Education, will facilitate a discussion on school reform at 1:45 p.m. ET on Friday, Oct. 5, in Shaker Heights, Ohio. The discussion is a part of the Hathaway-Brown Education Innovation Summit entitled, “Everybody’s Children: Independent Schools, Educational Reform, and the Future of Teaching.” Shelton will lead an afternoon breakout session on innovative practices and interventions in classrooms, the ability to share those best practices, and the Education Department’s role in encouraging innovation in the field.

In partnership with the Edward E. Ford Foundation, the Hathaway-Brown Education Innovation Summit will bring together approximately 600 attendees from 80 different public, parochial, charter, and independent schools in 20 U.S. states and the District of Columbia. Education policy leaders, teachers, school officials, and journalists will participate. Columnist for The New York Times and Pulitzer Prize recipient Thomas L. Friedman will join the list of summit presenters.
