Looks like boomers may have had it with tradition, choosing to live together rather than marry!

That's the bold new finding from researchers at Bowling Green State University.

Crunching data from two large national studies, they found that cohabitation among adults over age 50 more than doubled from 1.2 million in 2000 to 2.75 million in 2010!

During later life, living together appears to operate as a long-term alternative to marriage. In many cases, the older adults said it provides a committed partnership without the grief of mingling finances and other legal constraints.

Interestingly enough, the research showed that women are more reluctant to marry later in life with many citing the strains of care giving and loss of freedom as turn offs towards matrimony.

The study is featured in the Journal of Marriage and Family.
