The Program
The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation's (FDIC) Division of Finance (DOF) is looking for high-caliber, motivated students who are majoring in the fields of Accounting, Finance, Business Management and other related financial fields to gain invaluable work experience through our internship program. A DOF internship is an ideal way for students to kick-start their future careers.
The Division of Finance offers a wide range of competitive internships, offering students the opportunity to gain valuable knowledge related to their own professional and educational needs. Selected applicants will be expected to perform a variety of duties such as routine accounting and budgeting, office automation duties in producing/preparing a variety of documents pertaining to financial functions, analyzing complex data reports, compiling daily, monthly or quarterly tax payment documents, assisting with testing of internal system enhancements, preparing reports or performing other miscellaneous technical tasks in support of functions related to the occupational area and program to which they are assigned.
Internships may be available in the following areas of the Division of Finance:
- Assessments Internship
- Interns will perform various tasks in support of the collection of assessment premiums and deposit reporting.
- Tax Policy Internship
- Interns will perform various duties such as assisting in the redrafting of policy documents and compiling tax payment worksheets.
- Financial Systems Internship
- Interns will perform various duties such as assisting with the financial systems support, system access, and the FDIC’s internal IT security program.
- Accounting Internship
- Interns will assist with the monitoring of accounting standards and guidelines, the establishing of corporate accounting policy and positions, and the financial statement compliance with GAAP.
- Planning & Budget Internship
- Interns assist with various tasks in support of the Planning and Budget area such as retirement analysis reporting.
Internships are within
the Division of Finance and are available at our location in Arlington,
VA.
Candidates interested
in DOF summer internships may expect to begin as early as mid to
late May.

Qualifications and
Requirements
DOF is looking for capable and self-motivated students, who are comfortable working in a professional setting with significant responsibility, possess a strong academic record, written and oral communication skills and a functional knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel. In addition, applicants should have a sincere interest in the fields of accounting and finance.
We prefer interested candidates to carry a current GPA of 3.0, at a minimum, on a 4.0 grading scale, or equivalent.
FDIC's Student Educational Employment Program offers internships that do not need to be related to a student's academic or career pursuits, but do not offer conversion to a competitive appointment.
This program is offered both as a summer and year-round program and appointments may be made at any time during the year, including the summer. Proof of enrollment status in an accredited educational program, achievement, and suitability related documents may be requested to determine eligibility for the Student Educational Employment Program. Resumes will be reviewed to ensure you meet the qualifications described above.
The
Student Employment Program (STEP) offers internships that
do not need to be related to a student’s academic or
career pursuits, but do not offer conversion to a competitive
appointment.
