Activity: Immunization Clinic

Description: Tdap immunizations were made available to our nursing faculty and support staff during a regularly scheduled faculty meeting. We hope to serve as a model for colleges and schools of nursing across the nation in making Tdap vaccination accessible and convenient for nursing faculty. Description: Safe Summer Slam is a youth empowerment event and neighborhood festival. This fair will host games, entertainment, activities and food all in one. Description: The Early Childhood Council of the San Luis Valley will celebrate its seventh annual "Week of the Young Child" with kite flying, face painting, bubble blowing, and an obstacle course. The Alamosa County Health Department will be present at the event to offer educational resources on the benefits of immunization. Activity: 5th Annual SOUP (Shots Offer Unrivaled Protection) Fundraiser

Description: This event, sponsored by Colorado Children's Immunization Coalition (CCIC) at the Cable Center on the University of Denver campus, will raise funds and awareness for childhood immunizations and honor the Big Shot of the Year, Dr. Allison Kempe. In addition, CCIC will recognize 2 immunization champions: the Regional Sure Shot, Opal Stalker, and the Metro Denver Sure Shot, Priscilla Hurley. The theme of the fundraiser is "Local Efforts. Global Good.", recognizing how local immunization efforts positively impact disease prevention worldwide. Activity: Immunization Records Night with the New Britain Rock Cats

Description: The New Britain Immunization Program and the New Britain Rock Cats Minor League Baseball Team have partnered to promote children’s health. Stadium visitors can have their children’s immunization records reviewed and will receive a free ticket to the game. A local pediatrician will throw out the first pitch in honor of the event. Description: Shot Smarts is Idaho Immunization Program's annual educational conference on vaccines. Geared toward immunization providers, it addresses issues such as vaccines for children, immunization registry, exemptions, school and childcare rules, as well as providing a comprehensive overview of hot topics in immunization. Dr. Wendy Sue Swanson and Dr. Melinda Wharton are this year's keynote speakers. The conference is held in Idaho Falls (4/24), Boise (4/25) and Coeur d'Alene (4/27), and approximately 550 participants are expected.

Activity: Minnesota Twins NIIW Promotion

Description: The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) and our partners are teaming up with the Minnesota Twins for NIIW. A message about infant immunization will appear on a section of the jumbotron during April home games. NIIW messaging will appear on other small monitors throughout the ballpark as well. At the April 25th game, MDH staff will hand out “homer hankies” with the tagline, “Protect your little sluggers. Get them vaccinated!”. An MDH-produced PSA, featuring a Twins player, will discuss infant immunization. The PSA will air during pregame in the ballpark on April 25, be posted on YouTube, shared on Facebook and Twitter, and sent to TV stations.

Activity: Children's Health Fair

Description: The Minnesota Department of Health’s (MDH) Immunization Program will be reaching out to local and state media in a number of ways during NIIW. MDH and the Mayo Clinic will be teaming up to host an event in Rochester, Minnesota. The event will include a panel of speakers including parents who will tell their stories about immunization. MDH has also created culturally-specific media messages that will be used throughout the month. Finally, MDH has drafted a Govenor’s proclamation in partnership with the Minnesota Academy of Family Physicians, the Minnesota Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the Minnesota Medical Association.

Description: A toolkit was developed and distributed to the immunization and/or public relations contact at all 87 local health departments and large health care systems in Minnesota. The toolkit included key messages and talking points regarding infant immunization, a copy of the proclamation by the governor, a listing of suggested activities local health departments could undertake, and a media release template that could be tailored to the specific activities of the local jurisdiction.

Description: The Southern Nevada Immunization and Health Coalition (SNIHC), the Nevada State Immunization Program, and other partners will sponsor an immunization clinic. The clinic will take place at Children’s Hospital of Nevada at UMC Family Resource Center, 1120 Shadow Lane. Children 6 years old and younger will be able to receive no-cost immunizations and screenings for hearing, teeth and eyes. Several pediatricians will also be onsite answering health questions. Description: A press release will kick off NIIW. In addition, NH child care resources and referral agencies have been solicited to reach out to child care providers to heighten awareness among parents. NHIP has provided staff and parent educational resources, including immunization coloring activities/crayons for the children. NHIP has also alerted its healthcare providers and provided them with promotional, healthcare and parental materials. NHIP will also acknowledge the CDC Childhood Immunization Champion once it is formally announced in April.

Description: Urbana area preschools will receive copies of NIIW coloring books and crayons for children. There will also be supporting educational material for parents. Description: The Rhode Island Department of Health has partnered with a local charter high school for students who would like to go into the nursing field. The students will complete the visit by helping the children with a specially designed craft project that will enhance the lesson.
