The Office of Investigative Policy and Oversight (IPO) includes two directorates: (1) Oversight, and (2) Policy and Programs.

The Policy and Programs Directorate develops and maintains DoD policy addressing investigative and law enforcement matters in DoD. The Directorate also processes requests by the Defense Criminal Investigative Organizations (DCIOs) for issuance of IG DoD subpoenas; administers the Department of Defense (DoD) Contractor Disclosure Program for Defense contractors; reviews specific DoD investigations in response to complaints or requests;and performs management reviews of Defense Agency IG investigative functions.

The Oversight Directorate examines DoD-wide investigative and law enforcement operations and programs to identify opportunities to improve effectiveness and efficiency.
