Tax Questions, Capital Gains and Losses

Investors contact the SEC asking about the tax consequences when they sell securities. In particular, investors want to know whether they will have to pay a capital gains tax or can take a capital loss. The SEC does not regulate this area. The Internal Revenue Service does instead. For information about capital gains and losses, go to the website of the IRS.
