Employ - Educate - Engage

The U.S. Department of the Interior manages America's backyard, and it's our job to make sure that backyard is available for all young people to enjoy. To this end the Youth in the Great Outdoors Initiative will employ, educate, and engage young people from all backgrounds in exploring, connecting with and preserving America's natural and cultural heritage.

Through employment and educational opportunities offered by the Department, youth will have a key role in creating a new energy frontier, tackling climate change issues, empowering Native communities, building trails, enhancing wildlife habitat, and restoring our cultural and historic landmarks. As stewards of our nation's lands, waters, cultural heritage, and tribal customs, the Department has a unique opportunity to reach out to under served populations and to ensure that these natural and cultural resources are enjoyed by all Americans. Together, we can transform the lives of millions of young Americans while growing the next generation of conservation and community leaders.
