Lowell, MA - Come hang out with park rangers, get creative, and explore your city! Lowell National Historical Park invites families to Your City Saturdays, a monthly morning of free arts and crafts, stories, and songs that will engage kids in imagining Lowell's past, present, and future. Your City Saturdays will take place at the Lowell NHP Visitor Center each third Saturday of the month from 10AM-12PM, October 2012 through April 2013.
Your City Saturdays continues a series of family programming that began this summer with the park's popular "Art in the Park" series, during which over 800 kids and their families had the opportunity to create historically-themed artwork in Boardinghouse Park in conjunction with the Lowell Summer Music Series. In the coming months, Your City Saturdays aims to continue nurturing the seeds of creativity in Lowell's next generation of national park stewards, encouraging kids to get involved in this city's hands-on tradition of reimagining our community. Lowell National Historical Park interprets this city's role as the country's first major planned industrial center. Since its founding in the 1820s, Lowell has constantly reinvented itself, reflecting cycles of industrial development, immigration, and preservation.

Your City Saturdays is a free, drop-in event. From 10AM-11AM, participate in a family-friendly art project, led by park rangers, around the theme "imagining our city." Activities will include stamping and printmaking, recycled art inventions, puppet making, window boxes, and more. From 11AM-12PM, join in a sing-along, accompanied by ukulele and other fun instruments. Kids will also get to take part in a participatory read-aloud, featuring some favorite stories and their big imaginations.
