LCDR Angela Girgenti, R.D.H., M.P.H., C.P.H.

Regional Women's Health Coordinator
(Region VI)

Lieutenant Commander (LCDR) Angela Girgenti has been selected to serve as a Senior Program Officer in the HHS Region VI and will serve as the region’s Women’s Health Coordinator. She joins our team after serving under the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR) as the Region VI Program Liaison Specialist for the Hospital Preparedness Program (HPP). In this role, LCDR Girgenti was responsible for assisting Region VI States to improve surge capacity and enhance community and hospital preparedness during public health emergencies.

LCDR Girgenti holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Dental Hygiene from Texas Womans University and a Masters of Public Health degree from the University of North Texas Health Science Center. She also holds a Certification in Public Health through the National Board of Public Health Examiners. Prior to joining ASPR, LCDR Girgenti worked for the Health Resources and Services Administration with a focus on grantee performance improvement. She has extensive experience working Maternal and Child Health grantees, Community Health Centers, HIV/AIDS programs, Primary Care Associations, and State/Local Public Health Departments. As a Registered Dental Hygienist, she served with the Federal Bureau of Prisons providing clinical care to underserved and medically vulnerable populations. Further, she has experience working with adolescent and pediatric populations.

As a Commissioned Officer in the United States Public Health Service (USPHS), she has responded to numerous national disasters and emergencies. In 2010, LCDR Girgenti was selected to deploy aboard the USNS Comfort in response to the Haiti Earthquake to provide critical situational information to the Office of Force Readiness and Deployment, as well as provide clinical care to earthquake survivors. In 2007, she participated in the U.S. Navy Humanitarian and Training Mission in Latin and South America on the USNS Comfort. During this mission, she provided clinical services to hundreds of patients in Nicaragua, El Salvador, and Peru. Lastly, in 2005, LCDR Girgenti deployed to the Joint Field Office in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in response to Hurricane Katrina.
