Joyce Townser, R.N., M.S.A., B.S.N.

Regional Women's Health Coordinator
(Region IIV)

Joyce Townser is the Women's Health Coordinator for Region VII of the U.S. Office of Public Health and Science. This region consists of Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska. Ms. Townser is a native of Kansas City, Missouri.

Ms. Townser obtained a Master's of Science Administration degree with an emphasis in Health Administration from Central Michigan University. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. She is a long-term member of the Golden Key National Honor Society. She has a diverse background in nursing, which includes public health, mental health, home health, pediatrics, geriatrics, well baby clinics, immunizations, education, medical-surgical, counseling and prevention.

Ms Townser has served as the Regional Women's Health Coordinator for 7 years. Serving in this capacity Ms. Townser collaborates with the State/territorial liaisons, health professionals, and service providers, community members, churches and other federal and private organizations to increase awareness of women's health. Ms. Townser belongs to the following professional organizations: the Greater Kansas City Black Nurses Associational and Bootstraps Speaking Public Organization.

Prior to becoming the Regional Women's Health Coordinator Ms. Townser worked for the Kansas City, Missouri Health Department as the Regional Site Coordinator and Program Manager for the Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Project. She served in this position for 4 years during which she coordinated the screening services for 7 providers' sites throughout the Greater Kansas City area. She also provided presentations on breast and cervical cancer as well as education programs and served as the liaison between the State and the community. She started out in the Child Health Division where she provided immunizations to children and adults and worked in the Well Baby Clinics advising parents about nutritional and developmental status. Ms. Townser was very active within the community assisting with building working relationships with various agencies within the community.
