SIGTARP can offer you a wide range of benefits that meet the needs of you and your family. Below are some of the highlights of what the federal government can offer.

  • Quality of Life: Flexible work options and assistance are available to help you manage the responsibilities you have outside of work.

  • Health Care: The federal government offers numerous medical insurance options that you can choose from that fit your own individual health care needs. The options include (but not limited to) Preferred Provider Organizations (PPOs) and Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) covering you and eligible dependents. Many health plan options offer dental and vision care as well.

  • Retirement: The current federal retirement system is on the premier retirement programs in the country. This flexible, portable system features three retirement components:
    • Retirement Pension
    • Thrift-Savings Plan (TSP) is a program that allows employees to control their investments and is very similar to a 401(k) plan
    • Social Security
  • Time Off: Employees new to the government are eligible to earn 4 hours of sick leave and 4 hours of annual leave per pay period. In addition, employees are given 10 paid holidays per year. Paid military, jury and bereavement leave is also available.

  • Metro Subsidies: Metro subsidies are a financial incentive to encourage employees to use public transportation to and from work. You are entitled to the subsidy as long as you use public transportation for your work commute on the following: Metro subway/bus, Virginia Railway Express (VRE), MARC train, or other eligible commuter buses or vanpools.

  • Life Insurance: The Federal Government established the Federal Employees’ Group Life Insurance (FEGLI) Program on August 29, 1954. It is the largest group life insurance program in the world, covering over 4 million Federal employees and retirees, as well as many of their family members. The cost of Basic insurance is shared between you and the Government. You pay 2/3 of the total coast and the Government pays 1/3. Your age does not affect the cost of Basic insurance. You pay the full cost of Optional insurance, and the cost depends on your age.
