Experimental Physical Sciences (ADEPS)

Cutting-edge Physics & Materials Research

Experimental materials and physics research at Los Alamos spans a broad range of complex projects from neutrino oscillations to quantum information, and from materials discovery to actinide processing.

Research: Frequently our most basic research experiments stimulate possibilities for solving some of the most intractable national security problems, such as nuclear weapons stewardship, homeland security, intelligence and information analysis, and alternative energy. The success of our science requires world-class research and processing facilities, including our LANL-based national user facilities: the Los Alamos Neutron Science Center (LANSCE), the Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies (CINT), and the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory (NHMFL).

Experimental Facilities: The capabilities of our flagship facility, LANSCE, afford us a convenient and powerful opportunity to test our ideas. We often combine forces with colleagues in theoretical physics, high performance computing, and computational science to formulate experiments that can validate theories and computational models.
