I have been a diabetic for 2 years now...I made a choice of insulin or diet and exercise to control it...I have lost 45 pounds and brought my A1C from 7.2 to 5.8...it has been a real struggle to get to this point...and a real struggle to keep it at this point...my whole life has changed...diabetes is a serious condition that affected my mother's life seriously...and now mine...if you have diabetes please make sure you take all precautions you need to and take care of yourself...doctors and medicines help but in the end it is up to you...God bless all who have this condition

    • Diabetes has affected my life on both sides of the family. My parents were both diabetics. Both sets of my grand parents were also diabetics. I never knew either of my grand fathers. They died before I was born. My parents passed away in their early sixties. I've had numerous losses in my family, from this disease. I'd like to help in the fight, anyway that I can.

    •  Reed has been flying airplanes for over 45 years and his flying partner Jean has been flying for 8 years. It is that experience that will be put to the test during our around the world flight journey for ADA. Meanwhile, Reed has been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. His father, mother, and other family members have all been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. When controlled, Reed can maintain his FAA flight physical which is required for flying airplanes. This is a Flight Against Diabetes, a disease which has grounded many pilots and many times goes undetected. Please follow us by clicking on TRACK US (available when the journey begins May of next year) at our website www.bee-aliveworldflight.com and by reading FOLLOW OUR BLOG. We plan to visit Japan, several Pacific Islands, Taiwan, Maldives, Norway, Greenland and various States in the continental USA and we hope that you will follow us on our adventure.

“Like so many other Hispanic Americans, I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I took all my medications, changed my diet, dropped 50 pounds and began to take my power back against the disease. Almost 10 years later, my life has changed in so many ways.

“I wanted to give back and help in the fight to Stop Diabetes. I joined my local Step Out walk committee and began speaking at community events. I competed in the national Miss Plus America pageant, where I won the Overall Community Service Award for my work as a diabetes advocate. I’m stopping diabetes, one rhinestone at a time!”
