House Moves Ahead on Fixing Tax Code to Help Bring Jobs Home, Grow Economy

House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) released the following statement today after the House approved the Pathway to Job Creation through a Simpler, Fairer Tax Code Act (H.R. 6169):

Ernst & Young says the president’s tax hike on small businesses will destroy more than 700,000 jobs, and a group of 88 economists warn that it must be stopped to protect our struggling economy.  That is why yesterday’s bipartisan House vote to stop the president’s small business tax hike is so important.  If we’re serious about long-term economic growth, however, that can’t be the end of the conversation: middle-class families and small businesses deserve a better, fairer, and simpler tax code that fosters job growth instead of weighing it down.  By eliminating loopholes and lowering rates for all, we can help keep jobs here in America and bring home some of the jobs that have gone overseas.  Today’s vote signals that by next spring, the Ways & Means Committee must pass – and the House must act on – tax reform that meets these pro-growth principles.”
