The Information Security Oversight Office (ISOO)

The Information Security Oversight Office (ISOO) is responsible to the President for policy and oversight of the Government-wide security classification system and the National Industrial Security Program. ISOO receives authority from:

"Classified National Security Information," Executive Order 13526 was released by the White House on December 29, 2009
Executive Order 12829, as amended "National Industrial Security Program" [PDF]

ISOO is a component of the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) and receives policy and program guidance from the National Security Council (NSC).

ISOO has three components:

The Classification Management Staff:
Develops security classification policies for classifying, declassifying and safeguarding national security information generated in Government and industry.
The Operations Staff:
Evaluates the effectiveness of the security classification programs established by Government and industry to protect information vital to our national security interests.
The Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) Office:
Develops standardized CUI policies and procedures that appropriately protect sensitive information through effective data access and control measures.

ISOO Notice 2012-04 was released on October 12, 2012.
August 30, 2012, ISOO releases the Fundamental Classification Guidance Review results.
The ISCAP publishes its bylaws, 32 C.F.R. Part 2003
June 25, 2012 ISOO releases its Fiscal Year 2011 Cost Report estimates for Security Classification Activities.
May 29, 2012 ISOO releases its 2011 Annual Report to the President
ISOO Notice 2012-03 was released on April 2, 2012.
The Classification Management and IC Markings System Training is available to all personnel.

This web-based training, produced by ODNI/CAPCO in collaboration with ISOO and IC members, fulfilling E.O. 13526 training requirements for derivative classifiers, and the IC markings system training as directed by Intelligence Community Directive 710.
ISOO Notice 2012-02 was released on January 5, 2012.
On October 7 2011, the President signed Executive Order 13587 "Structural Reforms to Improve the Security of Classified Networks and the Responsible Sharing and Safeguarding of Classified Information".
