Early Career/Transition

Career development (K) awards provide salary and laboratory support for individuals who have had some postdoctoral training and need 'protected time' at this critical period of their research career.
Mentored Research Scientist Development Awards (K01) provide Ph.D., or other comparable researchers, with support for up to 3-5 years following postdoctoral training to transition into independence and obtain regular research grant (R01) funding.
Mentored Clinical Scientist Development Awards (K08) provide physicians with up to 5 years of support to pursue research careers.
Mentored Patient-oriented Research Career Development Awards (K23) provide physicians with up to 5 years of support to pursue more clinically oriented research careers directly involving patients.
Midcareer Investigator Awards in Patient-Oriented Research (K24) provide salary support for established investigators who are actively engaged in patient-oriented research and who serve as mentors for new clinical investigators.
Mentored Quantitative Research Career Development Awards (K25) provide salary support for individuals with quantitative scientific and engineering backgrounds outside of biology or medicine who wish to focus their research on basic or clinical behavioral and biomedical research.
Career Enhancement Awards (K18) for Stem Cell Research provide the opportunity for either newly independent or established investigators to obtain the training necessary to effectively and appropriately use stem cells in their research.
