Have you heard about federally sponsored clinical trials and why they’re important? Well, there’s a good reason to listen now.

Hi, I’m Dr. Griffin Rodgers, bringing you Healthy Moments from the NIH. I’m the director of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases.

Our Institute is one of many at NIH that conducts clinical trials. A clinical trial tests a promising drug, vaccine or medical device or other treatment in human volunteers. Trials help us improve existing treatments and find new ones.

By participating in a trial, you can play a more active role in your own health care and can help others by contributing to medical research.

However, choosing to participate is a big decision that involves asking a lot of questions and weighing the risks and potential benefits.
