Today, nearly 1 in 3 children nationwide is overweight or obese, and for any parent, that’s a troubling statistic.
Hi, I’m Dr. Griffin Rodgers, bringing you Healthy Moments from the NIH. I’m the Director of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases.
Childhood overweight and obesity are a growing cause of public concern. To help find solutions, the National Institutes of Health is sponsoring a large research study that will evaluate 300 communities nationwide, to find out what each is doing to address childhood obesity. Investigators will use the information they collect to determine which community approaches are the most promising for combating childhood obesity.
In the meantime, we can help our children to get in shape this New Year, by encouraging them to eat healthy and be physically active.
