When you turn on the radio, there are some things you may not expect to hear about. Today, I’d like to talk about one of them—bowel control problems.
Hi, I’m Dr. Griffin Rodgers, bringing you Healthy Moments from the NIH. I’m the Director of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases.
A bowel control problem is the inability to hold a bowel movement until you’ve reached the bathroom. Bowel control problems are common, and affect 1 out of 12 people. So if you have this problem, you’re not alone.
The good news is that bowel control problems are
- manageable
- often treatable
- and not always related to aging
NIDDK has a Let’s Talk about Bowel Control Awareness Campaign, which provides science-based information on the symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment of bowel control problems.
Our goal is to help improve the lives of people with this condition.
