March is Kidney Month, and if you have diabetes, you're at risk for chronic kidney disease, which means March is a good time to learn about the benefits of regular kidney disease screening.

Hi, I’m Dr. Griffin Rodgers, bringing you Healthy Moments from the NIH. I’m the Director of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases.

Diabetes is the leading cause of chronic kidney disease and kidney failure in the United States. In fact, nearly 180,000 people are living with kidney failure as a result of diabetes, so diabetics should be screened regularly by a doctor.

Doctors have ways to help you control your blood pressure and blood glucose. They may prescribe specific types of drugs that are known to slow the onset and progression of kidney disease.
