It’s not too late to prevent diabetes. As you get older, your risk increases, but you have the power to reduce your risk.

Hi, I’m Dr. Griffin Rodgers, bringing you “Healthy Moments” from the NIH. I’m the Director of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases.

To find out if you have type 2 diabetes, check with your doctor. For people over 65, Medicare covers tests to check for diabetes up to twice a year.

If you’re at risk, you can take these steps to prevent the onset of diabetes:

  • Lose a modest amount of weight by reducing the size of your food portions.
  • Slowly work up to 30 minutes a day of physical activity, five days a week.

For more tips, visit our website, yourdiabetesinfo.org, or WMMJ’s website, majic1023.comExit Disclaimer. This is Dr. Griffin Rodgers. Join me next week for more “Healthy Moments.”
